Problem Statement

Over the past ten years, the increasing technical and institutional complexity of water management in California has posed new challenges for technical analyses to support water policy, planning, and operations.  These challenges indicate a need to develop astrategic analysis framework to guide the long-term development of analytical tools and data.  The California Water and Environmental Modeling Forum (CWEMF) has embarked on an effort to develop astrategic analysis framework to guide the long-term development of analytical tools and data for California’s water management problems over the next ten years.  The CWEMF committee charged with this effort has received ideas from (1) a plenary session at the CWEMF 2004 Annual Meeting and (2) various California water community members who answered a CWEMF questionnaire.  A strategic analysis framework interim report and related questionnaire are available at www.cwemf.org.  This workshop will present work to date, including the interim report, and solicit ideas on current and future work.
